Photographs from California's Mother Lode

The Mosquito Bridge, an iconic landmark built in 1867, will soon be replaced by a new bridge located 400 feet above. As early as 1848, gold was found in the Mosquito Valley of El Dorado County, California. As more and more people found their way to the Gold Rush country, hundreds of mining camps sprung up all over the region.

Completion of the new bridge is scheduled for mid-2025. The old bridge is visible in the lower left corner.
